There are many factors to consider when buying a cabinet or network rack. NerdLab takes a number of basic tips into account when choosing the right network cabinet or rack that will serve you best.
Physical Dimensions and Weight of your equipment
You may choose from three types of racks and network cabinets: freestanding, wall mount, and versatile (can be used as a wall mount, desktop, or freestanding when using the optional levelling feet).
The first thing we look into is the physical dimensions and the weight of the equipment. Equipment could be bulky or heavy and might fit only in the freestanding racks, these racks are designed to be placed on the floor. Other equipment might be smaller and can fit inside desktop or wall mount cabinets. There are several things to consider when choosing your cabinet or rack.
After checking the weight and dimensions of your equipment, we are able to narrow the search down to the appropriate size network cabinet or rack. In order to confirm that we are focusing on the right cabinet or rack, we verify the measurements of the unit to ensure it will suitably accommodate your equipment.
If we anticipate installing additional equipment in the future, we might consider a larger rack or cabinet to ensure your future equipment will fit. Accordingly, checking systems can save our clients time and money at a later stage.
NerdLab offer freestanding racks, Server Racks and Universal Racks. The main difference between them is that the server rack has more depth and is designed to accommodate servers or other bulky equipment.
NerdLab offers wall mountable cabinets as well as free standing cabinets.
NerdLab offers a versatile mounting cabinets that can be used as wall mounted cabinets, desktop cabinets, or freestanding cabinets when using the optional levelling feet.
Usable Mounting Space
The second thing to verify is the usable mounting space available in the cabinet or rack that is selected. Please note the rack or cabinet total depth is different from the maximum usable mounting depth.
We recommend allowing extra space in front and behind the equipment mounted inside the cabinet or rack if the equipment requires any type of cable hook-
You may also want to consider allowing extra space for providing maintenance to equipment.
Access Points to Equipment
While some applications and equipment need only front access, others might need side or back access. NerdLab determines what type of access might be needed to maintain your equipment and ensure that the rack or cabinet you choose will provide you the access needed.
What Accessories are Necessary for your Equipment
Another area to check is whether your equipment will require a cooling system, shelves, cable management, or any other accessories. One of the reasons one must check if extra accessories are required is because some heat generating equipment require a cooling system to improve ventilation.
NerdLab offers a variety of competitively priced accessories for your specific needs.
Specifications and Special Requirements
The factors previously presented are just preliminary key points to consider. Some network equipment may need special attention and considerations. NerdLab believes it is best to carefully research any restrictions that are noted by the equipment manufacturer for any special housing accommodation.
